The primary area protected is the Town of Thetford, Vermont.

Thetford Vermont is a rural town of 2600 full time residents, and is located along the Connecticut River in Orange County. In the Summer the population increases by about 1000, as several Summer camps open for the season. The town has 36 square miles, an interstate highway, a small airport, and a railroad.
There are numerous businesses in town, some agriculture and a major furniture manufacturer. The Town is divided into six unique villages, and has thousands of acres of wooded hillside. Our highways are busy with commuter and tourist traffic.
The main station is on Thetford Hill, and is roughly in the center of town. A smaller sub-station is located in the Northern village of Post Mills.  Our response is based on a run-card which tells a dispatcher what equipment to send to specific types of emergencies in different parts of town.

Emergencies vary in size and complexity, and local resources cannot always meet the needs of an emergency. Our run-cards include automatic response from adjacent fire departments for certain types of emergency. We can also request additional, specific resources based on the complexity. For one example, a reported structural fire would bring equipment and manpower from one or two nearby towns. Another example is a motor vehicle accident complicated by the release of a hazardous substance. In this case, we would request the assistance of various State agencies.
